Boots for Liberia - January 2009

Gary Allsopp, CEO of Broadway Consolidated, and Richard Osborne, the UK Office Manager, have recently returned from a trip to Liberia where they distributed football kits and boots to local football teams and the Liberia National Olympic Youth development programme. Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Coventry City have all donated kit to be sent to Liberia and a local football team called Athletic United FC ran a "Boots for Liberia" programme.

Gary said "I am Club President of local club Athletic United in Potters Green, Coventry who asked was there anyway they could help. They came up with the initiative of a 'Boots for Liberia' campaign which was an amazing success. The club asked its players to donate any spare or old kit they had which I then took out to Liberia. The childrens faces when they put on football boots for the first time in their life was amazing as they are used to playing in bare feet."

Athletic United Coach Paul Krumins stated "I am a FA qualified coach at a local Coventry grassroots club Athletic United JFC and when speaking to Gary I realised we could help the children of Liberia. We started collecting used boots, old shirts, old kit, etc. and sent them out with Gary Allsopp who handed them out to children who have virtually nothing of any value and play football in bare feet. Gary then contacted clubs to inform them of our club efforts and we have received letters of praise from the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Mark Hughes and Martin O'Neill to name but a few. We are starting our 'Boots for Liberia' appeal again as we want to continue to help the children, for more info visit our club website at www.athleticunitedfc.co.uk".
